And so it begins

As I mentioned last time, I had decided which army I would play, & now knowing a bit more of the game I decided on a rough list using the points found in the 4th edition starter booklet (simply called Warhammer armies, which was a short list of all armies available with some points etc etc).

My first draft was:

Chaos General (Chaos Lord). Mounted on a horse with Hydra Blade, Helm of Many Eyes & Fire Breath gift, he had Mark of Tzeentch (4+ dispel)

Chaos Sorcerer Lord. 2 Dispel Scrolls, 1 Power Scroll, Ruby Chalice, Mark of Tzeentch

Beastman Champion: Great Weapon & Armour of Meteoric Iron

5 Chaos Knights: Standard of Shielding

11 Chaos Warriors: Banner of Sorcery

14 Beastmen: Great Weapons

This list was a mess, you can clearly see I had the High Elves army in the back of my mind when I designed this list & still knew nothing of tactics.

3 units in total, each led by a character, the characters was designed to combat the stuff that had been troublesome the first 2 games, namely shooting & magic. Scrolls & natural dispels vs magic, while good armour & the ruby chalice was against the shooting.

With this in mind I went out & bought my very first miniatures:

Monopose models ftw! Tbh I quite like these models, but I guess it´s due to nostalgia rather than them being great models.

Some of my first Chaos warriors

I went over to my friends place & started painting them (badly & totally trying to copy the way GW had painted their models).

A few days later we had our first game, I was allowed some proxies due to not yet owning all the models. My opponent had the same army as last time, but now with his general mounted on a dragon instead.
This time I won, but it was more due to my opponent doing the mistake of charging my Chaos lord with his dragon, I think I killed the dragon in 1 round due to 4 hits turning into 17 hits or something & then rolling good enough to outright kill him. His lord killed mine shortly after, but my Knights chased him down.

My very first Chaos sorcerer in his splendid red robes

A great addition to my force was the Battlemasters released by GW & MB, I got it as a birthday gift by my father, we didn´t play too many games Before I used many of the models in my Chaos army instead.

Next game my opponent had the Crown of Command on his lord to avoid getting run down & this along with the extra models I had gotten was the beginning of a very fun (but cheezy) arms race & our decision to start playing bigger games.

He started to use Black Gem of Gnar, Van Horstmann's speculum & Black Amulet, I changed my lord to carry the Sword of Destruction along with Regeneration & Collar of Khorne, making a character immune to all magic items & very tough to deal with by using magic as well as being quite the machinery of destruction with  10 base attacks!

On and on it went until the next edition of warhammer was released & we decided to attend our first tournament....

  1. Nostalgia FTW! I also started out in Fantasy Gaming with the 4th Ed Starter Set. I'm sat here painting up a regiment of those Monopose Spear-Goblins as I read this :)
